A School-Based Initiative Building Bridges - Joining Hands

Building Bridges – Joining Hands is a school-based initiative designed to unite students of diverse backgrounds who may never have the opportunity to meet. Using virtual technology (i.e. Zoom), participating students get to meet and know one another face- to – face!

Building Bridges – Joining Hands was inspired by a shared commitment to create a “Culture of Kindness” in our schools and communities.

“… Men hate each other because they fear each other. They fear each other because they don’t know each other, and they don’t know each other because they don’t communicate with each other, and they don’t communicate with each other because they are separated from each other.”

Dr. Martin Luther King

Learn About Our Pilot Study

A Pilot Study was conducted to evaluate the impact and effectiveness of the Building Bridges-Joining Hands initiative. Three schools in South Florida were involved: a Muslim Elementary & Middle School, a Catholic Private School, and a Jewish Day School. Students from two fifth grade classrooms in the Jewish school were paired with the same grade level students from either a classroom in a Catholic School or Muslim School.
